Surface Protection (“SPV”)

We offer all of these Hullguard and Slipguard surface protection products, from the Nitto SPV range, on lightweight reels for ease of handling or in custom sizes up to 1.5m wide for some products.

We can also supply 2-inch tension control core handles to allow for ease of application on the variable angled surfaces often found in marine applications.

It is important to note that all our films and tapes are designed to be applied to a dry and dust-free surface.

Application kits (which include MPF squeegee, film cutters and core handles) are available.

Hullguard Protect (blue or clear)

These are general purpose surface protection films of 0.05mm thick, with excellent tack - the only difference being the clear or blue finish to the roll. They both offer Nitto’s renowned Special Adhesive Technology so, when applied to clean, dry surfaces, they will stay put. When using our special application kits along with a comfortable roll size, both options are very easy to apply, with low unwind and excellent adhesive qualities. They have good humidity resistance so can stay in place for the time you need in a refit or during transportation and storage. The Hullguard Protect series has been developed to protect lacquered surfaces during construction, refits, or extensive cleaning.

Both of these specifications are recyclable.

    • Adhesion Level: Medium/High

    • Recyclable: Yes

    • Weatherability/UV resist: <1 month

    • Residue after removal: None

    • Colour: White

    • Elongation: <200%

Hullguard Premium

This premium surface protection film really is the top product for all your needs, both inside and out! The Hullguard Premium is a unique white polyolefin film, (available in two formats, MPF701 and MPF724) offering protection to gelcoat and high gloss finished surfaces during construction, refit or winter layup. Hullguard Premium films have the ability to perform equally well on interior and exterior surfaces (provided they are applied correctly to clean and dry surfaces). The Premium MPF701 is the ONLY marine film we know of that’s tested and approved for 12 months weather resistance and UV protection (the MPF724 is tested for up to 9 months UV weatherability) as well as for protection against surface oxydation. What’s more, there is no adhesive transfer and no contamination. Having up to 600% elongation, both options stretch over and around those changing hull, deck and superstructure designs. Both Hullguard Premium options are recyclable.

    • Adhesion Level: Medium/High

    • Recyclable: Yes

    • Weatherability/UV resist: <9 months (724) <12 months (701)

    • Residue after removal: None

    • Colour: White

    • Elongation: <600%

    • Ease of Unwind: Very Good

Hullguard Metal Protect

This Nitto Metal Protect version is a surface protection tape which is specially-designed to protect metal surfaces such as stainless steel, anodised aluminium and coated metals, as well as plastic substrates such as PMMA, Polystyrene, PVC and PC.

This is the film you need to protect the substrate against scratches and impurities found during mechanical processes, storage and transportation as well as through the construction and refit processes. It consists of PE film combined with a pressure-sensitive natural rubber adhesive, which gives high protection with a low-medium adhesion level, leaving no residue upon removal.

This tape is recyclable.

    • Adhesion Level: Low/Medium

    • Recyclable: Yes

    • Weatherability/UV resist: <3 months

    • Residue after removal: None

    • Colour: White

    • Elongation: Minimum

    • Ease of Unwind: Good

Hullguard Blue Metal+

This Nitto Hullguard (SPV-224) is known as the “Blue Metal Guard” because it has been used for many years to protect stainless steel and aluminium in the processed metals industry. It is a translucent blue PVC-based surface protection tape, compliant with RoHST2 regulations.

The Hullguard Blue Metal+ is also a highly conformable product, able to cover and protect a multitude of metal shapes and forms found on board any number of yachts.

And, it has excellent UV Protection (the plus) - with up to 9 months weather resistance for boats in dry dock or being stored (and/or transported) outside in all weathers.

    • Adhesion Level: Medium/High

    • Recyclable: Yes

    • Weatherability/UV resist: <9 months

    • Residue after removal: None

    • Colour: Blue

    • Elongation: <200%

    • Ease of Unwind: Very Good

    • This film is highly conformable to shapes and forms such as winches, cleats and panels before forming

    • Special acrylic adhesive allows outdoor use

    • Compliance: RoHST2

Hullguard Unpolished

The Hullguard Unpolished (9330) is a surface protection film suitable to protect unpolished base metals or other substrates with a rough or textured surface. The product has low surface gloss and high adhesion levels (with an initial adhesive bond) - making it ideal for the protection of boat interiors, such as furniture, carpets and fittings, whilst the transparency of this film enables easy inspection of the surface/s beneath. The characteristic of the base film reduces any stretching of the film during unwinding and lamination, which results in good sealing performance.

Note: Although this film has a greater adhesion level than some others in the SPV range, it remains peelable without any residue. This film is recyclable

    • Adhesion Level: High

    • Recyclable: Yes

    • Weatherability/UV resist: <3 months

    • Residue after removal: None

    • Colour: White

    • Elongation: <200%

    • Ease of Unwind: Very Good

    • extreme rough surface protection

    • low gloss surface protection (ca.10 %)

    • high initial tack

    • substrate identification and inspection

    • stretching resistance film

Slipguard

The Nitto Slipguard (4222E) is ideal for use underfoot during the build or refit process because it protects against dust, footmarks, construction material ingress, paint and water staining. In dry conditions, the upper surface of this film is designed to be anti-slip and the roll itself is very easy to apply, provided the initial surface to be covered is clean and dry.

Ultimately, Slipguard can be applied to all deck surfaces - wood, teak, varnished surfaces or painted floors - for extended periods with no adhesive transfer. Once down, Slipguard has good abrasion resistance so won’t split or lift easily until the time comes to remove it. Slipguard is recyclable
